THE BIRTH OF TRENDY SETTERS

My name is Nikki and I officially launched Trendy Setters in 2021.

JUNE 2021:

Trendy Setters was born from my love of animals, creativity and sewing machines, with the name itself from my passion for the Setter breed! Having worked since 2008 as a busy full time Veterinary nurse I dreamt of starting a business crafting beautiful collars but never had the time, or the sewing machine, to pursue it! After a year of unexpected poor health, and almost a month in hospital (shortly followed by a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease), I decided life is too short not to follow your dreams. I began by borrowing my Mum’s old sewing machine and teaching myself to sew. My 2 Irish Red & White Setters and 2 rescue English Setters provided excellent testers for developing my products.

During the hunt for my perfect ‘workhorse,’ my passion for rescuing and restoring sewing machines also begun! I now have far more sewing machines than I’d like to admit but the thrill of producing a work of art on a 1928 Singer 66k is amazing! All the products in my shop are sewn on vintage machines, mainly ‘Bridgette’ the 66k and her companion ‘Bertha’ a Singer 15k; they really were designed to cope with the thickness of fabric involved!

A special thanks to my husband for his encouragement, support and technical/mechanical expertise to get me to where I am today!

THE PRODUCT TESTERS!

Having lived in areas surrounding the South Downs areas of Hampshire all my life until August 2023, we were lucky to have access to beautiful countryside. We now live in rural Norfolk with endless forest to explore.

Sonnet

IRWS 1/05/10 - 11/07/23

Sonnet was the first dog of my very own. She was the most kind hearted and unique dog who made everyone smile. My true soul mate, we still miss her every day.

Teisha

IRWS Born 2012: Teisha spends her walks in mud, water, sand, trees and bushes and thus has provided the chief product tester (as she was not made for a lead she also provides the perfect tug tester too).

Supporting charities

Two of our dogs, Bruno and Faith were adopted through the charity Settusfree:

Bruno

We adopted Bruno in October 2015 from a rescue in Serbia at an estimated age of 3 years. He was found wandering the streets in Bosnia, close to death, matted, emaciated and covered in bite wounds. He clearly has some embedded traumas and has been abused by humans, yet his loyal and loving nature shines through and he loves everyone he meets- particularly if he gets a 'bum scratch.' Completely obsessed with birds!

Faith

? - 2/3/23

We adopted Faith in January 2018 at an estimated age of 5 years old. She was found abandoned in the mountains with a litter of puppies. She was a true character, who spent the first six months of her life with us breaking into the larder, fridge, dog food bin etc! She liked nothing more than to eat, sniff and sleep- not your typical active setter!

Faith Running- a rare occurrence!
